Why does it always rain on me?

It’s June – the festival season is in full swing (as is Summer, apparently) and we’ve had more than our fair share of the wet stuff. Nothing beats a bit of rain to make a festival go with a squelch.

Festivals are big business nowadays, having grown exponentially over the last 20 years. No longer necessarily relying on headline acts; boutique festivals are popping up, drawing hundreds of thousands of regular festival goers, as well as many festival virgins to joy of the field. Music, funfair, theatre, creative activities, camping or glamping, motorhome or a sneaky Air BnB, there’s a festival for everyone.

Our team are all avid festival goers and they love to experience the organisation of these huge events from a different point of view to usual. We can’t go to a festival without checking out how the festival organisers manage the logistics, staffing and whole customer experience.

We recently met up with one of the Feststaff team who had worked in the staffing office at the Download Festival. What an experience that was! Talk about interesting working conditions, their Portakabin also took on the swamp-like properties.

Despite the torrential rain for most of the weekend, there was still a party feel to the whole event and the organisers ploughed on (literally), whilst the revellers embraced the conditions.

As the Download Festival waved off the last of the wellie toting rock fans for another year, we have a few more corkers taking place locally that we’ll be looking forward to.

We’re holding out more hope for further festivals in our region: Newark festival this weekend, Southwell folk festival, Glastonbudget, - these have all taken place already, except Newark but time this is posted it will have been!

Y Not and Splendour, the family friendly Gloworm, Hockley Hustle are all coming up over the next few months. We have a fantastic venue for Splendour – see if you can recognise what film this famous hall was used in.

We’d love to see some of your favourite festival pics and hear about your best festival – please send them in!
